Saturday 24th October, 14:00
** 27th January 2026 - we apologise that we have had to pause taking bookings for this event temporarily. Due to unforeseen circumstances this talk has been rescheduled from 14th March to 24th October. We will re-open ticket sales in due course, and all existing ticket bookings will be honoured for the new date.**

The Friends of Gloucester Cathedral are delighted to welcome Sharon Griffiths to give our Autumn 2026 lecture.

Sharon will give her talk "The Long Man": how Edward Jenner and others contributed to modern science. It tells the story of John Hunter (the father of modern surgery), Edward Jenner (the father of modern medicine) and a mystery character (the Long Man) and how they all tie together and their contributions to modern science.

Our speaker recently retired after 45 years in the NHS where she practiced and lectured in Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging.
  • Please note that the Parliament Room is upstairs, and we are sorry that there is no lift available.
  • Your ticket includes tea/coffee and cake after the talk. Please use the special requirements section of the booking form to advise us of any special dietary requirements.
This lecture is open to all, but if you are not already a member of the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral and would like to join (and take advantage of preferential ticket prices), details can be found here:  https://gloucestercathedral.org.uk/support/friends/join

Online ticket booking closes on Tuesday 20th October
