Located up a winding spiral staircase, the medieval library at Gloucester Cathedral contains a wonderful collection of books and manuscripts dating back to the 11th century.

Join us on one of the dates below for a rare opportunity to take a peek inside and see a selection of items. On each date, you are invited to hear about the history of our Library and explore different items in the collection following a theme.

Theme: Celebrating Gloucestershire
Come and find out more about glorious Gloucestershire, its history and geography through our historic archives and books.

Theme: Medieval
A chance to see the oldest items in our library and archive, including illuminated and decorated manuscripts, original items written by our monks and more.

Date: Saturday 14th June 2025
Theme: Music
At the heart of our worship is music. Visit the library to discover the traces left behind by our organists and singers over the years, from chorister graffiti to famous names.

Theme: Natural History
The Lions, Birds and Dragons: Explore the natural world, on this tour of our beautiful historic library.

Theme: Remembrance
Take time to reflect on the history of the military service and remembrance of those who have died in our hidden library.

· Library Tours last around 60 minutes
· Library Tours involve climbing 38 spiral steps. 

Booking essential. Bookings will close 24 hours before the date of the event. Any remaining tickets will be available to purchase at the Welcome Desk on the day, subject to availability.

Please note, cancellation requests must be received a minimum of 48 hours prior to the time of your booking to be eligible for a refund.
