Good Friday St John Passion

Friday 7th April, 19:00

Nave, Gloucester Cathedral, 12 College Green, Gloucester GL1 2LX
Bach’s St.John Passion is one of the most famous choral pieces ever written. He wrote it to be performed by his Church Choir in Leipzig on Good Friday, 7th April, 1724.

The music is arguably the most vivid , and dramatic setting of any biblical text by any composer. Bach’s description in sound of the last hours of Jesus’s life concentrates the mind on the realities of the Passion story in a unique way.

It is thrilling that the Cathedral Choir is once again able to present this wonderful work on Good Friday, after the arid years of Covid and its consequences. We hope that this performance on 7 April will be as exciting in its own way as that first performance in Leipzig, precisely 299 years ago.

After you have booked your ticket, you will receive a confirmation email. Please bring this to the concert with you, either printed out or on a mobile phone. We look forward to welcoming you to Gloucester Cathedral.
