This course is aimed at those with a beginner level of interest in architecture or those who have a passion to learn about our Cathedral.
The course will cover topics including, but not limited to:
- Introduction to Norman architecture, including a tour of the Crypt
- Introduction to Early English and Decorated Architecture
- Visit to Gloucester Cathedral's Lady Chapel
- Introduction to Perpendicular Architecture, with a close look at the Quire and East Window
- Learn about the Cathedral's magnificent Cloisters and (optionally) climb the 269 steps to the top of the tower
- Visit our Mason's yard, and see their work up close with the opportunity to ask questions
The course price includes tea/coffee, as well as lunch at the final joint session.
Morning sessions will take place on 6th February, 6th March, 3rd April, 1st May and 5th June from 10am-12.30pm, with a final joint session on 24th July from 11.30-4pm.
NB: it is not possible to swap between the morning and afternoon sessions, and courses will not run without a minimum of 7 participants per session.
This event is exclusively for current members of the Friends of Gloucester Cathedral, and also members of The Friends of Tewkesbury Abbey and Friends of the Wilson.
